ENGLISH VERSION
THE GROUP
Nourat and the Lions is a group of Reggae roost consisting of a singer and four instrumentalists (drummer, bassist, guitarist and pianist).
Nourat is of burkinabè origin, she began her musical career in 2012 with an album of traditional modern musical varieties from her home. With this album, she won the Kunde for best female artist in Burkina Faso in 2013. Very passionate about Reggae music, she is a singer and performer at One Love Café, a live Reggae music space in Ouagadougou (Capital of Burkina Faso), there she met The Lions in 2016, three young musicians from Cote d’Ivoire for the same purpose. The Lions previously participated in festivals such as MASSA, FEMUA, ABI REGGAE, 24H REGGAE along side Ras Goody Brown (Ivorian Reggaeman). They then play together at the One Love Cafe and are called ‘The One Love band’ and have a large repertoire of Reggae music that they perform.
Aiming beyond interpretations, they decide to form a group to achieve their goal which is to record their own album, this is where Nourat and the Lions training was born.
In 2019, terrorist attacks are more and more frequent in Burkina Faso and in the sahelian sub-region. Many burkinabè soldiers fall everyday for the defense of the country, Nourat and the Lions then decide to make a cover of one of the great hits of Bob Marley, the King of Reggae, ‘Buffalo soldiers’ in ‘Burkina soldats’ to of course return tribute to all burkinabè soldiers. This single was very well received by the burkinabè people, particularly by the soldiers. It should be noted that before the release of the single Burkina soldats, Nourat and the Lions received an honnorary price (Marley of hope) at the Marley d’Or which is a great award ceremony for the actors of Reggae music in Burkina Faso.
In 2021, before the release of their first album, they decide to release another single entitled ‘Panga’ which means strength in Moore language of Burkina Faso, to always give strength to the country, to its sons and daughters, which is more and more prey to the forces of evil.
